The Skelligs

A great day trip departing from Portmagee at approx 9:15 and returning around 1:30

Valentia Island

Take the ferry from Renard onto the Island at Knightstown, from here onto the Lighthouse, up to the Slate Quarry, then on to Geokaun Mountain the highest point on the Island with majestic views, visit St Brendan’s Well, then off to the Tower at Bray Head and finish off in the Skellig Experience interpretive Centre with all the history of the Monks.

Beentee Loop Walk 3-4 hours.

The trailhead for the Beentee Loop is in the centre of the town and starts by following an ancient mass path – then rising to gentle mountain slopes. A steep climb takes you onto the summit of Beentee Mountain (376m) which overlooks the town, the harbour and much more.

Cnoc na dTobar 4-5 hours.

Cnoc na dTobar is 690 metres high and situated 4.5 kilometres from Cahersiveen town.  It has been a sacred Pilgrim site since prehistoric and medieval times. This is not a loop walk but offers some spectacular scenery from the summit.  It is one of the twelve Pilgrim Paths in Ireland.

Skellig Chocolate Factory

A must see for anyone with a sweet tooth while on the Skellig Ring, see the production line, taste their products before buying and enjoy a coffee in their Cafe.  Skelligs Chocolate.
